Featuring four of South Africa’s celebrated classical musicians – Zanta Hofmeyr on violin, Jeanne-Louise Moolman on viola, Susan Mouton on cello and Elna van der Merwe on piano – the quartet brings together artistry, friendship and a shared love of chamber music. Guests can look forward to a moving programme featuring Brahms’ Piano Quartet No. 2 in A major, Op. 26 and Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 47.
The Artists
Zanta Hofmeyr (violin) – Trained at the Juilliard School in New York, Zanta has appeared as soloist with South Africa’s leading symphony orchestras and has taught violin at the University of Pretoria.
Jeanne-Louise Moolman (viola) – A member of the Odeion String Quartet since 2008 and formerly principal violist of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Jeanne-Louise now lectures at the University of the Free State.
Susan Mouton (cello) – Principal cellist of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Susan trained at the University of Pretoria and is also a member of the Wits Trio chamber ensemble.
Elna van der Merwe (piano) – A graduate of Stellenbosch University, Elna is a sought-after collaborative pianist who has performed with leading local and international artists, and founded the Gamka Klassiek chamber music festival.

Brahms – Piano Quartet No. 2 in A major, Op. 26
One of Brahms’ great early chamber works – lyrical, expansive and richly melodic.
Schumann – Piano Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 47
A highlight of Schumann’s celebrated “chamber music year” of 1842, treasured for its famous slow movement.
The recital takes place in the estate’s historic Chapel.
The Evening
Vergenoegd Löw’s historic estate, established in 1696, sets the scene for the evening. Guests arrive from 18:00 for a welcome drink, before the recital begins at 18:45 in the intimate surrounds of the historic Chapel.
Afterwards, guests move to Clara’s Barn for a three-course dinner shared at long communal tables, in keeping with the estate’s tradition of warm hospitality.
