The course explores the viticulture and winemaking techniques used in all styles of wine in South Africa. There is a deep dive into each region and district that looks at climates and soils, grape varieties grown, wine styles with notable producers and important wines. Significant wards and an understanding of the Wine of Origin scheme will also be covered. The course also includes an overview of market channels and key distributors.
Note: The course is also suited to those candidates taking the SASA Foundational Certificate and those with WSET 2 looking to expand their knowledge of South African wine.

- History of wine in South Africa.
- Viticulture and climate of South Africa.
- Wine making and wine styles in South Africa.
- Understanding what is behind the label – the Wine of Origin scheme.
- The wine regions and districts of South Africa, with key wards.
- Soils, climates and important producers.
- Wine distribution and routes to market for South African wines.
- Discovery wine tastings.
- Opening and serving wine.
- Pairing South African wine with food.
