Grub and Vine's next Meet the Makers dinner on 30 October will be a night in honour of a true legend in wine: Jan Boland Coetzee of Vriesenhof Vineyards.

Our next Meet the Makers dinner will be one of deep appreciation, a celebration of craftsmanship, legacy, and the man who helped shape South African wine as we know it.

We’re proud to be hosting Eddie Smit from Vriesenhof Vineyards, the acclaimed Stellenbosch estate founded by the late Jan Boland Coetzee, a true pioneer whose influence extended far beyond the vineyard.

His philosophy was simple yet profound: let the wine speak of its place.

Vriesenhof embodies that belief through wines that reflect the natural rhythm of their terroir, elegant, balanced, and timeless. With its cool slopes of the Helderberg and a deep respect for tradition, the estate continues to produce some of the Cape Winelands' most authentic expressions of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

This Meet the Makers evening will pay homage to Jan’s enduring legacy and the team who now carry his vision forward. Expect a thoughtfully curated menu by Chef Matt Manning, paired with exceptional vintages from Vriesenhof, each glass a nod to heritage, patience, and a life dedicated to the craft.
