Babylonstoren’s exquisite collection of South African clivias comes to life for their annual flowering. During this masterclass taking place on 8 October, you’ll learn how to grow them in your own garden

Every spring season, Babylonstoren’s exquisite collection of South African clivias comes to life for their annual flowering. During this masterclass, you’ll learn how to grow them in your own garden. Babylonstoren botanist Ernst van Jaarsveld will share his wealth of knowledge on the different species of clivia, veltheimia, scadoxus, crinum, watsonia and many more to show you how to sow, grow, and maintain them. You’ll be taught to divide old clivia plants, which potting mix and fertiliser to use, and how to treat common diseases.

The class includes an insightful, guided walk through the Babylonstoren garden to see the thousands of clivias growing in the shade of our wild olive trees, as well as the many other indigenous bulbs in our nursery collections. Before enjoying lunch at the Greenhouse Restaurant, you’ll be able to put your newly acquired knowledge and skills to practice by cleaning clivia seeds and planting them to take home.
