Every Thursday evening from 18h00, Idiom Wine Estate opens its doors for a sensorial journey across taste and terroir. Home to 20 different grape varietals planted across dramatically varied soils and slopes, Idiom’s vineyards offer a rare opportunity to taste the diversity of wine in a single location.
Each week’s themed tasting focuses on a specific angle - from vertical tastings of vintages past, to side-by-side comparisons of local and international interpretations of a single varietal. Idiom’s expert wine ambassadors guide guests through the tasting experience, revealing how terroir, climate, and winemaking choices shape each bottle’s unique identity.
On Thursday, 28 August, the spotlight turns to Sangiovese - Italy’s noble grape and a unique cultivar of Idiom’s portfolio. Guests will explore its character and flavour profile in a comparative tasting that brings together both South African and Italian benchmarks.
The line-up includes:
- 2007 Idiom Sangiovese – a rare, mature library release with layered complexity.
- 2021 Idiom Sangiovese – the estate’s most recent expression, elegant and fruit-driven.
- Lungarotti Cadetto 2019 – a bold and structured Umbrian red.
- Banfi Chianti 2022 – a classic Tuscan expression, vibrant and balanced.
This curated tasting offers an educational journey across regions, vintages, and styles, with Idiom’s sommeliers bringing to life the story of Sangiovese from Stellenbosch to Tuscany.
Guests will also get to taste one of Idiom’s signature Italian pasta dishes that pairs with Sangiovese as part of the experience.
