A Boland staple in winter, a bottle of gleaming guavas could be found in any self-respecting pantry on any farmstead. Today still, the deliciousness of sweet, preserved guava is undeniable – and even more so if it’s homemade with care. Join us in the Soetmelksvlei kitchen as we celebrate the bounty of guavas in the heart of winter.
Following a short ride along the picturesque slopes of Simonsberg, we’ll descend towards the historical farmyard of Soetmelksvlei, which represents a time when life was simpler and craftsmanship was treasured. Here, farm foodie Louzel Steyn will teach guests the basics of preserving your own guavas in a variety of ways.
After a hands-on morning, we’ll enjoy a hearty lunch at the Old Stables Restaurant before heading back to Babylonstoren.
The cost is R1500 per person and only 10 places are available.
Please meet us at the Babylonstoren ticket office at 08h30.
Lunch at the Old Stables Restaurant is included.
