The prestigious Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) Auction, to be held on Friday and Saturday 6 & 7 October, will be hosted by Strauss & Co, South Africa’s leading art and wine auction house.

Recognised as South Africa's leading wine auction and open to the wine trade and general public, the Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction offers rare wines with a creative edge and great diversity of style.

The auction will be held at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West and will take place over two days, Friday evening and Saturday during the day.

All the wines that will be going under the hammer will be offered on both days. Guests will have the opportunity to attend and bid live in the auction hall or virtually live from anywhere in the world. Being a Virtual Live auction, online, telephonic and commission bidding will also be available. Those wishing to bid will be able to register online with Strauss & Co.

Dates and times

The Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction will be split into two sessions:

  1. Friday, 6 October from 16h00 - 20h00
  2. Saturday, 7 October from 09h00 - 16h00

The auction will be facilitated by Strauss & Co and registration to bid is now open on their website.

Remote bidding

If you are not able to attend the auction in person, you have the option of bidding online in real-time via the Strauss & Co website, or by telephone or by absentee bid.

Wines on auction

This year’s auction will see 39 wines from 31 Guild members on offer. These comprise 15 white wines and 24 red wines. A total of 478 lots will be sold over the two days – 156 lots on the Friday evening and 322 on the Saturday. All the wines will be offered on both days.

Pre-auction tasting

If you missed tasting the 2023 auction wines at our Auction Showcase last month, you still have an opportunity to sample them at the Final Pre-Auction Tasting on Friday, 6 October from 12h30 for 13h00 - 15h30. Bubbly and canapés will be served on arrival from 12h30. The formal, tutored tasting starts at 13h00 sharp.

Food and drinks

Attendees can look forward to indulging in a range of superb wines by Guild members as well as an assortment of gourmet snacks. 

On Friday evening, there will be mouthwatering canapés and hearty bowl foods, as well as a delectable cheese buffet.

The feast will continue on Saturday with an array of special dishes created by the following local chefs:
