The History of Father’s Day

In South Africa, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. This tradition was started in 1909 by Ms Sonora Louise Smart Dodd. The day was initially created to celebrate her father’s efforts in the American Civil War. Today, it is celebrated as a day where fathers are commemorated for the important roles they play in raising families and building a stronger society.
