Join paper artist Catherine Holtzhausen on 29-30 August 2026 as she invites participants into the layered paper process behind her work at this workshop at La Motte Ateljee.

Her practice involves painting paper, cutting intricate forms by hand, and layering these fragments into tactile works that explore tenderness, resilience, landscape and the quiet poetry of the natural world. The workshops aim to offer participants not only an opportunity to create, but to experience a way of seeing: noticing hidden forms, embracing intuition, and finding possibility within fragments.

During this two-day workshop, Catherine will guide participants through drawing and painting exercises, participants shift away from fixed interpretation toward a more intuitive way of seeing. Where shape, texture, and colour are experienced as language rather than description.

Participants will build a body of painted material using gouache and ink, which will then be used to work more intentionally with cutting, layering, and assembly. Catherine will guide participants to work with technical focus on cutting with intention and compositional layering. At the end of the workshop, guests will have created beautiful new paper artworks to take home with a specially curated collage kit.

This La Motte Ateljee workshop will include a coffee and pastry morning break and a seasonal lunch curated especially for this workshop.

Come as you are. All you need to bring is your creativity and curiosity.

The cost is R3,230 per person and limited spots are available.
