Babylonstoren
Butter was considered the golden commodity of the 1900s and today still, every knob is worth its weight in gold – and rightfully so! Join us on the historical farm of Soetmelksvlei to see how butter is made from scratch – from milking the cow to the separation of the cream and, finally, churning real farm butter.
Following a short ride along the picturesque slopes of Simonsberg, we’ll descend towards the historical farmyard of Soetmelksvlei, which represents a time when life was simpler and craftsmanship was treasured. Here, master baker Martjie Malan will teach you the art of handmade butter. With buttermilk as by-product, you’ll also learn to create the fluffiest scones.
After a hands-on morning in the farm air, we’ll enjoy a hearty lunch at the Old Stables Restaurant before heading back to Babylonstoren.
The cost is R1500 per person and only 10 places are available.
Please meet us at the Babylonstoren ticket office at 08h30. The workshop will end at 15h00.
