Grandma’s pickles and preserves are part of a new revival of eating seasonal food and minimising food waste. Join us in the heritage kitchen of Soetmelksvlei as we unpack this traditional South African practice.
Following a short ride along the picturesque slopes of Simonsberg, we’ll descend towards the historical farmyard of Soetmelksvlei, which represents a time when life was simpler and craftsmanship was treasured. Here, we’ll join Rina van Velden for a hands-on morning of making our own pickled and preserved foods.
After a hands-on morning in the farm air, we’ll enjoy a hearty lunch at the Old Stables Restaurant before heading back to Babylonstoren.
