Wine Cellar is excited to play host to the Premium WSET Level 2 Award in Wines. This exclusive premium version of this popular course will teach you about the key grape varieties grown around the world and the different styles of wine produced.

It will also introduce the Systematic Approach to Wine Tasting (SAT), which will be followed when tasting each wine. Level 2 is an ideal introduction to the world of international wines and wine law, and is suitable for beginners as well as those who have already studied South African wines.

The Premium WSET Level 2 Award in Wines will run over 12 weeks from the 5th of August 2024 at our tasting room in Observatory, Cape Town, and sessions will span three hours instead of the normal two to accommodate the increased tasting selection. Each evening will also include light snacks. The course will finish with a written exam, after which successful candidates will receive a certificate and lapel pin.
This premium offering will also include:

  • A bonus lecture and deep dive into SA wine, exploring the wines of both classic and avantgarde producers
  • A field trip to Tim Atkin MW’s annual South Africa tasting, where we’ll taste his top wines of the year
  • A visit to a premium local producer for a behind-the-scenes cellar tour with their winemaking team

To meet the very highest expectations, we’ll be pouring some of our finest imports and small, hand-picked parcels of top local wines. You can look forward to premium Bordeaux, Burgundy and superstars from Spain and Italy, such as La Rioja Alta and Querciabella. This course is presented in partnership with the International Wine Education Centre(IWEC). IWEC is Africa’s first approved programme provider for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) – the world leader in wine and spirit education.
