The inaugural South African Jazz & Classical Encounters Festival features some of the best South African jazz and classical artists in a blaze of contemporary music.

The one-day festival begins at 14:00 and will see jazz and classical icons alternate on stage for the next seven hours. The line-up allows for refreshment and food breaks, and a chance to absorb the atmosphere of the beautiful Spier Wine Farm. The show will open with the Kyle Shepherd Trio with Shepherd (piano), Shane Cooper (double bass) and Jonno Sweetman (drums), followed by classical composers-performers Reza Khota, Brydon Bolton, Matthijs van Dijk and Cara Stacey of the Night Light Collective and Mandla Mlangeni’s Tune Recreation Committee (Clement Benny/drums, Nicholas Williams/bass, Reza Khota/guitar, Mandla Mlangeni/ trumpet and Afrika Mkhize/ piano and keyboard). Next up will be violist Jan-Hendrik Harley’s Ensemble Je ne Comprends Pas and bringing the show to an end will be trumpeter/vocalist Mandisi Dyantyis and his Quintet.

The amphitheatre provides the ideal venue for the showcase with several outlets for casual dining, or pre-booked picnics.
