Next week, sommeliers from around the world are gathering in Cape Town to compete in Wines of South Africa’s (WoSA) fourth WoSA Sommelier Cup competition. The competition aims to test the skill and knowledge of South African wine from sommeliers based in South Africa's export markets.

The judging is done by a team consisting of industry profiles such as the SASA Chairman Barry Scholfield together with Spencer Fondaumiere, SASA Vice-Chairman and diplomated ASI Sommelier as well as Minenhle Mthombeni as an associate judge, one of SASA’s most prominent Level 1 Junior Sommeliers.

The local judges are joined by some of the most prolific individuals from the northern hemisphere, including Master Sommelier Ronan Sayburn (MS) from the UK, Sören Polonius from Sweden and the 27-year-old Marc Almert from Germany- recently crowned as the ASI World's Best Sommelier.
