Lionel Beukes is an acclaimed South African jazz musician and composer. He plays the double bass and electric bass, and he is a vocalist. His repertoire includes legendary jazz standards by Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, and Frank Sinatra. He grew up in District Six in Cape Town and started playing professionally in 1970. He has performed all over South Africa and around the world, also performing and recording albums with renowned artists such as Abdullah Ibrahim.
