Hazendal Wine Estate is celebrating 320 years since its establishment and 25 years of the Voloshin family ownership with the launch of an initiative aimed to introduce the concept of education through play to children in disadvantaged communities. This will be revealed at a Benefit Gala Dinner Show and Auction on 8 November 2019.

Gala attendees will be treated by a culinary feast prepared by Executive Chef Michélle Theron and complemented by Hazendal’s premium, award-winning wines. Guests can also expect inspiring entertainment, performed in part by the incredibly talented children from the South African Circus Art Academy and the College of Magic. A guest MC, an auction of extraordinary experiences and live music entertainment will round off the evening.

Education and community outreach have always been close to our heart, which was, in part, the motivation behind the development of Wonderdal, one of the new gems at Hazendal. Wonderdal is an Edutainment Centre for Children aged 5 to 13, the first of its kind in Africa. It combines advanced technological elements and creatively designed spaces, complete with an extensive range of learning resources to teach children in a playful and interactive manner about topics from their school curriculum.

Inspired by Wonderdal, we have developed an educational program which serves as an important vehicle to enable children and teachers from disadvantaged communities to experience the concept of learning through play. To achieve this, we have joined forces with the Anna Foundation, founded by Anna Brom, which established 18 afterschool centres reaching over 700 disadvantaged children in the Winelands and the greater Cape Town, to address their educational needs.

Our goal is to make some of the wonders of Wonderdal accessible to these children, by capturing the Wonders of Wonderdal in the innovative WonderBox, which consists of portable science kits, plant growing kits and book libraries, as well as other educational games. The program will also involve training educators on how best to use the WonderBox to create an enriching, stimulating and inspiring learning experience for children and teachers alike. We will use the proceeds from the Benefit Gala Dinner and the auction to provide as many WonderBoxes as possible to children in need.

Your support in this evening, by either purchasing tickets or donating items or experiences for the auction, is essential for its success.
