A gourmet five course dinner especially prepared by renowned and award-winning Swiss-trained chef Bernhard Hess and Marthinus, paired with wines especially selected from the De Wetshof Estate’s vinoteque, await visitors to this year’s Robertson Slow Festival taking place from 9th to 11th August.

The dinner, held on Friday 9th August, will be prepared especially for this once-off event by Hess from the well-known Mimosa Lodge in Montagu. Under his guidance, Mimosa Lodge has become known for its culinary excellence with the emphasis on classic regional cooking with the use of seasonal fresh products. Chef Hess is especially known for his dishes comprising venison, duck and seafood – all of which feature on this menu.

Besides the sumptuous five-course meal, wine lovers are in for a treat. Rare and mature De Wetshof Chardonnays which are not readily available on the market, will be served with the dinner held in the auspicious De Wetshof main-building.

Johann de Wet from De Wetshof Estate will be present to introduce and discuss the wines in what promises to be a unique, engaging and personal event, while being serenaded by classical music from a local musician Stephen Arendse, whilst a surreal local artist, Pieter van Tonder,  will canvas his skills through live painting.

Stephen Arendse

Hailing from Cape Town. Spending a majority of his working career abroad and even teaching music at a high school, he decided to relocate to Robertson with his wife and two kids to enrich our lives with the sound of music. He has established himself as music tutor, as well as running the Robertson High School Choir. Under his guidance, they recently participated in the popular Kyknet competition ‘Sing in Harmonie.’ Stephen’s playing style varies from Neo-Classical music, Light Jazz, Show tunes to Contemporary tunes.

Pieter van Tonder is a South African artist, born on the 14th of May 1980. He is an autodidact and worked as a full time artist for 15 years and established a niche for his work; a unique nuance in the broad genre of surrealism and visionary art. Oils on canvas is the primary medium. He has the gift to paint fascinating, realistic landscapes from imagination, which serves as stage for the drama in the foreground.
He lifts his concepts from visions, dream revelations and sometimes craft concepts to deliver a specific message. Very often the paintings resonate with clients on a very personal level and often, in profound, mysterious ways. He seeks to honour these mysterious processes and strives to give the creative impulse complete freedom, of course slightly constrained by the natural laws of the golden ratio, composition, color theory and the environment of his unique style.
