David Nieuwoudt – who has produced award-winning wines from high-altitude vineyards at Cederberg – is the special guest at Wine Menu’s first wine tutorial for 2018. The wine masterclass takes place at The Private Hotel School campus in Rosebank on Tuesday, April 27, from 18h00.

Nieuwoudt is best-known as the owner and winemaker of the high-altitude Cederberg Private Cellar, near Clanwilliam. He is also responsible for the Ghost Corner range of wines from Elim, near the southernmost tip of Africa as well as the Chilean label Longavi. Longavi wines is a collaboration between two friends from different continents; Chilean producer Julio Bouchon and Nieuwoudt who teamed up in 2012 to produce wines in Chile's Leyda Valley.

All wines that Nieuwoudt makes are from “cooler climate” areas. Cederberg has the high altitude of 1036m in its favour, Elim receives cool coastal breezes and mist from the both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans and Longavi has a combination of cool air from the Pacific and from the snow-capped Andes.

Nieuwoudt will take those attending the masterclass on a comparative tasting between these wines with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon in the line-up.

Says organiser Corlien Morris of Wine Menu: “It is going to be a wonderful opportunity to taste wines from these diverse regions and discover why David chose to make wine at these locations. It’s also not often that we have the opportunity to taste these wines next to each other.”

The price for this limited seating event is R150 per person which includes light snacks on arrival. To book call Corlien Morris on +27.833790030 or email corlien@winemenu.co.za.
