To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Creation Wines is delighted to be hosting Ladies’ Pink Tasting on Saturday 19 October. For the second consecutive year, the full proceeds from this fun wine tasting morning will be donated to the non-profit organisation, Reach for Recovery, for their Ditto Project.
As one of South Africa’s oldest breast cancer support organisations, Reach for Recovery has provided 6,533 indigent women who have undergone mastectomies, with high-quality silicone breast prostheses, at a cost over R4,5 million in total. This is under the auspices of The Ditto Project, a prosthesis provision and fundraising initiative. Launched in 2011, the project, through local branches of Reach for Recovery, provides women with prostheses, as well as specialist fittings.
“It’s wonderful that during the beautiful month of October, as we see trees and flowers bursting into bloom after winter, we receive such generous support for our Ditto Project, which offers women a sense of renewal and hope after the trauma of breast cancer,” says Stephné Jacobs, Chairperson of Reach for Recovery.
“Through the funds raised by events such as this, we can provide South African women, regardless of income, with the tools they need to live a normal, healthy post-operative life while restoring a sense of self-confidence,” adds Jacobs.
Guest speaker at the Ladies’ Pink Tasting is Doctor Justus Apffelstaedt, a specialist surgeon with an interest in breast, thyroid and parathyroid health as well as soft tissue surgical oncology.
"Reach for Recovery and I share the same belief: that all women facing breast cancer must be treated with dignity, and have the same access to care, regardless of whether they can afford it. I’ve witnessed the power of these prostheses in recovery and am grateful to Creation Wines for their solidarity in hosting such a meaningful event," says Dr Apffelstaedt.
His talk at the Pink Tasting will focus on the outcomes of breast cancer as well as his work with the Ditto Project.
“As a woman, this is a cause close to my heart and I believe we should all do our part to support initiatives such as this. Together with Dr Apffelstaedt, Creation is thrilled to be supporting Reach for Recovery’s Ditto Project by donating the full ticket cost to the cause for another year,” says Carolyn Martin, who co-established Creation Wines in 2002 alongside her husband, Jean-Claude.
The Ladies’ Pink Tasting will take place from 10:00 to 12:00 at Creation Wines (Hemel en Aarde Valley) and costs R200 per person which includes sparkling wine and breakfast canapés.
